HOW TO GET INVOLVED
Volunteers are the heart of our Home. Just a few hours a week, or month, can make a meaningful difference in the lives of our residents and their families. There are many ways to share your time, talents, and interests with Webster Comfort Care Home.
If you are considering hands-on resident care, please know that prior healthcare experience is not required. We provide comprehensive training, and no volunteer is ever scheduled as a primary caregiver until they feel confident and comfortable in their role. We are also proud to support students from our local universities and high schools as they explore potential career paths and gain meaningful, real-world experience.
Our training sessions are held twice a year, in the fall and spring. Volunteers are welcome to join us anytime during the year, with hands-on training available.

The descriptions below give an overview of general responsibilities for each opportunity.
Resident care volunteers serve in teams of two, covering 4-hour shifts to provide personal and compassionate care for our residents. No prior experience is necessary.
We provide comprehensive training, along with opportunities to shadow experienced caregivers. Responsibilities may include interacting with the residents’ family and friends, light meal preparation, doing laundry, answering phones, greeting visitors, and collaborating with staff to ensure a warm and welcoming environment.
Because we do not receive insurance reimbursement or government funding, fundraising plays a vital role in sustaining the care we provide. Throughout the year, we host a variety of special events, including our popular Casino Night, annual memorial luminaria event, the Soup-er Bowl, and more. Volunteers support these efforts in many ways, including soliciting donations, brainstorming new ideas, securing sponsors, assisting with event planning, helping with setup, and volunteering during the events themselves. Fundraising is a wonderful way to meet others who are passionate about our mission—and to have a great time while making a meaningful impact.
Gardening volunteers help maintain the many gardens and green spaces around the Home, creating a peaceful and welcoming environment for residents and their loved ones. The group establishes a schedule for weekly tasks and seasonal projects, and volunteers are encouraged to work at their own pace and according to their availability.
Home maintenance volunteers assist with small repairs, seasonal tasks such as shoveling and salting, light cleaning, and general organization around the Home.
Meal preparation volunteers help create comforting, home-style meals and baked goods to be enjoyed by our residents and their families. When a resident has a limited appetite, or when families choose not to join the meal, these dishes are offered to our volunteers, many of whom work through mealtimes. Hospitality is a hallmark of our Home, and we extend it to everyone in our community. Homemade meals are especially appreciated, providing warmth and nourishment to families who may be feeling stressed or relying heavily on takeout during difficult times. This is also a wonderful volunteer opportunity for families. Planning, shopping, cooking, and delivering a meal together is a meaningful way to support our residents, their families, and our volunteers.
What volunteer opportunities fall under “other”? Sometimes volunteers have unique gifts or talents, and we would love to hear about them! For example, some volunteers bring their therapy dogs to visit, offering comfort and calm to residents and their families. Licensed massage therapists have helped ease pain or provided relaxing chair massages for stressed family members. Local businesses have also supported our mission by offering services such as printing, baking, or maintenance. If you have a skill, service, or idea that isn’t listed here, we encourage you to reach out. We would be happy to explore how it might support the needs of our residents and families.
